Having a hyphen in the Version string can be problematic (difficult for the system to tell if the hyphen is part of the version or the delimiter to the revision). Besides 100% continuity with upstream's naming, is there a technical reason to not change the version string to `3.2.3-2` ? I have to do something similar with ImageMagick which puts the patch number release as a hyphen in their tarballs.

Backport of a Python 3.2+ library function to 2.7; this is a runtime requirement of the new matplotlib 2.0.
Built and tested on 10.11 and 10.12.
