I personally like not breaking people's setups and thereby dealing with complaints on every single update. For the vast majority of packages, ConfFiles does what we intend, which is to provide a stable global configuration which doesn't get overwritten. I'm sorry yours doesn't work that way. I don't have much of an argument against asking whether to reinstall the ConfFiles on "fink reinstall". We haven't used that for much other than restoring lost files, and updating fink itself for new distributions, so that's a relatively noninvasive place to do that. "fink update", on the other hand, would be an absolutely horrible place to do it since it could break autobuilds unless we put in an override flag. Something like a Debian-style setup where a user is prompted about updated configuration files, and whose default behavior is to do nothing, would be ideal. The only way is a purge, install sequence, which is a pain, when there is a large number of dependences.
