'fink reinstall' just hands off to 'dpkg -i', and that's the layer where "a conffile has changed, what do you want to do?" is handled. I think it currently/already does happen if your .deb has a different ConfFile content than the previous .deb and you have changed the local one--you need to decide which set of changes (new-deb or local) to keep in the live file. Except for core packages, you can 'dpkg -r --force-depends' to delete a package even if doing so would break the dependencies of other installed packages. Presumably that --force also works with 'dpkg --purge', so then you could 'reinstall' and get a fresh conffile installed. I also see a --force-confmiss option, documented as "Always install missing config files", so perhaps just 'dpkg -i --force-confmiss FOO.deb' would do exactly what you want? --- ** [feature-requests:#245] Replacement/Update of ConfFiles** **Status:** open **Group:** **Created:** Sun Mar 05, 2017 03:04 PM UTC by K.-M. The only way is a purge, install sequence, which is a pain, when there is a large number of dependences.
