After updating to MacOS 10.12, I did a `fink reinstall fink` followed by a `fink selfupdate`. The latter failed, with this message:

$ fink selfupdate         
Before changing your selfupdate method to 'git', you must install
the Xcode Command Line Tools package from
http://developer.apple.com (after free registration),
or via the Downloads tab of the Xcode Preferences.
Failed: Selfupdate method 'git' cannot be used
~~~

However, there is no longer a *Downloads*  tab in `Xcode`.

Instead, the new mechanism is `xcode-select --install` (per http://railsapps.github.io/xcode-command-line-tools.html et al.)
