Just got to the email this afternoon...alot has apparently happened in my absense. > Anthony wrote: > >> I think the CORE team should consist of at least the followin members: > >> Stacy (because she's put a lot into it already and shows alot of >> promise to be very beneficial to the project) > >> Eric (because he runs the server) > >> Joshua (because he has "lots of free time") > >> Anthony (because I've been wanting to do this for so long) > > in my opinion these are very weak reasons. > > > "because he runs the server" i dont think that make someone important. > server is something you can get everywhere - we could also get our > project get hosted on sourceforge for example. Good argument. But he has also spent alot of time setting up this server, and has also put forth alot of effort in getting everything organized. Does that not count for anything? > > "because he has \"lots of free time\"" you know that retired persons > also have lots of free time. I am just here to help, if you would like the help, you have it. Agreed. Stacy has done alot from what I have seen. She has my blessing/vote/whatever to be a core member. I do think though we need to decide about some things...mainly the mentioning of "FreeBSD Public Relations Team" mentioned in a draft, etc....isn't this bsd-advocacy, and not freebsd-advocacy ? > > has anyone of the rest (incl. me) done any public relations work? > > i did an freebsd 5.0 article, i founded a usergroup, and on the upcoming > opensource event in my country i am going to hold a speach and i am > going to organize i freebsd booth. this is "advocacy work". It shows your interested in FreeBSD yes, but has nothing at all todo with "bsd-advocacy". Just because a person does not have the ability to contribute technically, does not mean there are other ways of contributing. As stated before, I think all the major projects should be represented. That doesn't mean that 5 FreeBSD Advocates are appointed "core" members of the "bsd-advocacy" project. Yes, its clear the majority is going to be FreeBSD, which is fine by me, but others should be represented as well. > i also started hacking of the events database and i remember to be the > first who said _yes we need something like that, when somebody suggested > to improve public relations. > > greets, josef Getting into a "I do more than you do" thread is pointless. Not only does it waste time, it also creates tensions between the list readers. My point being, everyone has their own accomplishments. For someone to belittle those accomplishments, or tell the person "thats not good enough" is not only wrong, but its also just plain rude. So lets not start that. I just voluntered to help. It was a generous suggestion that I be made a member of the "core" team, which I would be honored to accept. However, not if its going to create internal tensions. My not being a "core" member has nothing to do with my ability to contribute...core members should make decisions when the rest of the project members are unable to do so. That doesn't mean "core" members make EVERY decision. If there is only 5 members allowed on the core team, and everyone wants to be in it, then its simple to fix...the 5 members who want in, are in, I will decline, and I will continue to contribute and work with the project. > > _______________________________________________ > bsd-advocacy mailing list > bsd-advocacy-XvSzoi6dgTOSihdK6806/[email protected] > https://secure.daemonnews.org/mailman/listinfo/bsd-advocacy
