how to build a module

Hello!
I am new in the group and new on perl also. I am trying to build a 
module. Could you please let me know the sintax to write a module?
Only the sintax... this module is suposed to create a socket 
connection, but i know that, what i need to know is how to write the 
module, and how to call it or use its functions from the .pl file.
