            Bug ID: 297451
Summary: pmu features not supported on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
           Product: Base System
           Version: 15.1-STABLE
          Hardware: amd64
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Many People
          Priority: ---
         Component: kern
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

The hwpmc.ko kernel module is loaded, but pmcstat prints that pmu features are
not supported:

> $ sudo pmcstat -L
> pmcstat: pmu features not supported on host or hwpmc not loaded

When the hwpmc.ko module was loaded it printed this in the log if this matters:
> hwpmc: SOFT/16/64/0x67<INT,USR,SYS,REA,WRI> TSC/1/64/0x20<REA> K8/28/48/0x1ff<INT,USR,SYS,EDG,THR,REA,WRI,INV,QUA>

pmu features allow in-depth process tracing and debugging beyond of what gdb
allows and AFAIK there is no replacement for this feature.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X is a very popular CPU now.
