I am not able to find the cause of this. I have git bisect'ed ${SRC} from the
last working copy to main, and every build fails the same way. I then tried it
with ${PORTS}, same error. So I decided to build on my desktop using the ${SRC}
and ${PORTS} pkg, it failed in the same way. It also failed if I used ${SRC}
and ${PORTS} at main.

It is a shame that release.sh has become even more fragile since the intro of
pkgbase. I remember when it was contributed to ${SRC}, I think back in 8.x or
9.x, it was a source of much rejoicing, mostly because make release never
worked for me, and moving to a single build machine for the entire home lab was
a huge progression in efficiency. I was very excited about pkgbase, I know it
is a great source of division within the FreeBSD community, however I always
wanted to be on the side of supporting it. But this is now just a major
de-motivator. I see the Project is able to supply updated pkgbase packages and
I do not know how that is done.
