It's a significant amount of work to port this to 12.x -- it would basically be
a reimplementation.  Unfortunately we don't expect to have time to look at this
in the near future.

I would highly recommend that affected users plan to migrate to 13.x, and
ideally test workloads on stable/13 snapshots to ensure that 13.1 will meet
their needs.
