Just guessing. I assume you have connected a HDMI screen? It might be that the default output is on a serial console (which you don’t have connected).
Can you ssh to the RPI?
It is also possible to set some variables to choose the hdmi as output. 


Anyway. I don’t use hdmi on my rpi so I might be totally wrong here.
