Run top or htop in another window and see memory use when Firefox crashes. Even with swap it will run extremely slowly.

Web search will reveal firefox issues on linux as well.  Though I suspect your best bet is to run firefox on some supported linux for 32 bit arm (since freebsd doesn't have enough resources and had to triage).
