I was surprised to find at https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/rp1-the-silicon-controlling-raspberry-pi-5-i-o-designed-here-at-raspberry-pi/ the quote "...it’s there to help you port an operating system and make use of the features of Raspberry Pi 5." I don't know how sincere those words are, but taken at face value they suggest a more cooperative approach to external developers. Clearly, if you need a sponsor for your work, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is much wealthier than the FreeBSD Foundation. bob prohaska
