It was an unusually hot month in England, both in terms of weather but also
my work on Vivante 3D GPU support for FreeBSD.
The victim GPU was found in the stm32mp2 SoC we use as the main processing
unit in the handheld.
Just got it working using the Etnaviv (reverse-engineered) driver for
Vivante GPUs found in the Mesa3D project.
There are some artefacts on the video, but generally it works :)
It is not just about Etnaviv support at FreeBSD kernel side, but lots of
work around it (from STM32 video subsystem and video clocks, down to
schematics and GPU power supply) which is not easily portable to other
hardware.
In this demo, OpenGL runs directly on KMS/DRM without an underlying
compositor.
This project is very similar to the Panfrost (reverse-engineered ARM Mali
GPU) driver that took me away for a much longer period a few years ago.

Next step would be to implement a compositor, so we could run multiple
applications and have some mobile user-interface allowing us to navigate
between windows.
