maybe armv7 will eventually drop? but remember, embedded systems live a long life. one hw can last decades and in embedded env, there's no push for upgrades

but, kernel and root? sure you're not using someone's distro here? or perhaps you are making your own? once you put anything next to kernel you have os already. a distributed software. a distro. doesn't need to run nginx or kde. so i get your point of not using "distro" distros

now, this is chicken and egg problem too. if you run away, it only gets worse

yes, those issues indeed suck. however you could start with hw / vm. and help to move to this better build env

i saw noone getting offended yet for crossbuilding nonroot. main system has gotten many improvements in this field. ports kind of lags. it's cursed that even pkg lags, as that's like *archport*, and from fbsd people, and could natively crossbuild. even if there's bunch of linux coming software from ports which have different expectations

actually i'm not trying to wrap my head around this. others already did explain it much better

but it's definitely not getting better with people giving up
