Just starting you will be happier with the serial connection because
it usually works, that way you will be able to see what is going on.
You can grab a serial to USB converter online for a few dollars.
From there you will likely be able to make the adjustments to get the
HDMI and other peripherals working.  There may be versions of Linux
that will work on the board, reading the forums might help you figure
out how to setup things in FreeBSD to get it working.
