indicates for troubleshooting:

The default implementation returns a placeholder value (50°C).

Fix: Implement actual temperature reading:

The actual code in rpi5.c is reading temperatures and using what is read:

and bxm2712.c has the code related to that. My experiments show the
temperature varying in the expected directions.
