Bug ID: 296536
Summary: how to gitify a pre-installed /usr/ports ?
Product: Documentation
Version: Latest
Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: ---
Component: Books & Articles
Assignee: [email protected]

I've a clean 14.x install which includes an unpacked /usr/ports. While the=
re's
`.gitignore`, there's no `.git` db.
I'm trying to set it up with a matching git repo, but this scenario doesn't
seem to be discussed in https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/ports/
(why do I suspect that long ago this wasn't a problem because ports shipped
with CVS)
I'm stuck at the first step as I can't even tell the tag used when /usr/por=
ts
was created with a git export.
