I have at least one FreeBSD guest with which USB (any of the three options) and
shared folders can be enabled, however it seems that none of these features are
functional. 

Not to be diagnosed here – let's keep noise to a minimum (if anywhere, I'll
discuss at <https://forums.virtualbox.org/>). For now, I assume that the issue
will end, or become easier to diagnose, after 7.⋯ additions are ported.
