The same run w/out LTO also can't find files:

# gcc x.cpp -fno-lto
/usr/local/bin/ld: cannot find

/usr/local/bin/ld: cannot find -lc: No such file or directory
/usr/local/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc: No such file or directory

It attempted to use FreeBSD's ld /usr/local/bin/ld instead of the Linux one
/usr/bin/ld for some reason.
