I modified fwcontrol to be a bit smarter a while ago. However this did require a rebuild of /usr/sbin/fwcontrol from source. You may want to try "fwcontrol -u 1 -R mini.dv" Since the device list NOW includes the firewire controller in your PC, and that controller is now device "0", you will have to specify the device number with the -u switch.
