I am closing this bug because the issue was diagnosed by mce@ as an upstream
libX11 change affecting XIM-based input methods, and a working workaround was
provided (setting GTK_IM_MODULE=uim). The reporter confirmed the workaround
resolves the Japanese input issue in GTK applications.
