While moving the config-dir aside let it start once, it recreated the config
dir (with whatever latest-version-files it dumps in there) and then started
hanging again.

While I'm mildly disgruntled that GIMP hangs/crashes, I'm more concerned that
it hangs the entire system.

Is there something that I should be doing (either be3fore I launch GIMP or
post-mortem to gather details from the hung-system) to figure out why a
userspace application can take down the OS?
