If you'd like something else to be stated and pinned, let me know. For this bug: I guess, the simplest partial workaround is to disable the automatic screen lock (in the privacy and security pane of GNOME settings). I wonder about locking when the system sleeps, however – with x11/gnome on FreeBSD in VirtualBox – I see no option to sleep.
