concept, questions: patch from Arch + scoop up apparent(?) dependencies

Arch led the way with that patch file. i dont think i found the best URL to
reference by but fyi i'm looking at [their patchfile as of] commit f76f14076 to
their packaging repo. worked for me, so long as that reference remains valid
(it wont last)

those other additions (cmake to USES & xres to USE_XORG) i added for other
snags i met in the meantime while trying to build in isolation. not sure if
they're meaningful; they werent strictly needed for this fix (though my host
obviously had cmake and libXres already installed)
