Turned out to be just that one library (at least everything else seems fine so far). I did a fresh install on a VM and yanked the file across. ftp is a lifesaver when crypto is broken.

Not ready to open that can of worms right now.

UFS on this system; it’s a VM and the host has mirrored ZFS.
