I am probably not the best person to guide You here - but as You stated 'security' and 'network' then after security audit [1] of FreeBSD Jails some of the stuff still requires resolving - that may be an interesting and good start for You.

From the other things - I would try to dig things related to VNET Jails and VALE switch and Netgraph based if_bridge(4) for example.
