Warner,

I've been wanting to find a path to seeing this resolved and I have a proposed patch for the EFI loader auto upgrade.  I did get some help from Claude Code, and I've got a test suite, as well, I've tested on the FreeBSD 14 box I was offering earlier for testing and it worked great.

I found D45890 for adding a warning, and I would like to offer a fix for this issue.  My configuration is FreeBSD 14.0-p11 on amd64 with UEFI on ZFS.  My proposed fix isn't limited to my specific configuration.

Would it make sense to open a review for my proposed fix?

I've got an account request on reviews.freebsd.org pending ([email protected]), and for now, I'm looking to hear your thoughts on next steps.

Best,

Ron

Happy New Year Warner,

When we chatted at the FreeBSD Vendor Summit, I think you mentioned you had a script in mind for users with only one boot partition (like me), to automate the simple case and upgrade boot loader.  I'm still very much up for trying it out (unless it was merged already and I just have been out to lunch).

I'm still sitting at 14.0 p11 as the test candidate, and wanted to be available to help with automating this upgrade path.  Let me know if there's something I can help with.

Warner,

Here's the mail you might be expecting :-)

Again, great chatting today and I'm interested to test auto upgrade for the EFI bootloader.

I think we figured out I start these systems sometime in 12-RELEASE, and got snagged on trying to upgrade from 14.1-RELEASE.

Best,

Ron
