Yes, I do. And kdump shows the program reading the
$LOCALBASE/share/alsa/alsa.conf among other things.

Does the getMixerInfo() return anything on _your_ system(s)? Have you tried
running my test-program -- you can give it any audio file(s) you have on
command-line:

java play /usr/local/lib/python3.11/test/audiotest.au
