After executing :

# kldload if_ath
# ifconfig

ifconfig reports interfaces available on lo0, fwe0, and rl0 (in reverse
order). rl0 is the onboard Ethernet (wired) NIC, fwe0 the Broadcom chip, and
of course lo0 the loopback interface.

Just to make clear: no entry for ath0, or anything similar, is even listed
after executing the lines above.
