Any luck with an SMC 2338W-AG wifi card?

I inherited an SMC EZ-Stream Universal Wifi PCMCIA card.

dmesg picks up on it and loads the ath driver but any attempt to bring 
up the interface causes the kernel to lock up. This is with 6.1-p16

Does anyone know if there are options available to tweak to recognise 
it, or if it can work with a more recent kernel?
