Assistance needed with speed of EVDO / UMODEM

My connection speed seems to be limited using EVDO/UModem card.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I have successfully connected to Sprint network with:
PC5740 -or- PC-5740
PX500 -or- PX-500
using UMODEM driver and "ppp" but speed is about a quarter of the speed
I get when using the card on a WinXP system.
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
