Enable soft cursor in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Option "SWcursor"      "1"
inside Device Section.

You didn't said what video driver.

Not for me, but UP still works.

"set kern.smp.disabled=1" from loader prompt or "kern.smp.disabled=1" line
in /boot/loader.conf
