Toshiba Tecra 8000 Modem (ltmdm)

Does anyone have the winmodem (MARS) in a Tecra 8000 working?  I've
installed the ltmdm port, but it's not reporting anything new in dmesg.  
BIOS settings seem okay, with it being set to COM2 and irq 3.

Google finds a few reports of others trying to get it working, but not
any positive conclusion.
