That's quiet possible! 

Would you suggest re-building the kernel with your (ie Larry's) config
and see what happens?

Installed devices:

The bios on the r505el is not terribly helpfull as well -- for example,
it won't allow me to set the video memory the graphics can get hence I
am stuck at 8bpp. *shrugs and sighs*
