The best wireless app I've seen so far is kismet (www.kismetwireless.net).

It doesn't work too good on FreeBSD though, a lot of fake network get
reported.  The developers say, the FreeBSD wireless drivers are bad.
Can't comment on that though.
It works great on OpenBSD nontheless.
