I'm guessing that this is a Winmodem, thus won't work. Either fit an fxp/lucent mini-PCI card (like IBM used to ship, ~$25 on Ebay) and use the 'ltmdm' package from ports (I'm typing this on one in my 6000), or buy a PC card modem (almost all of these work, as long as they have a real 16550 in 'em).
