Have checked ... :(

Something I did notice on my disktop machine going from 4.7->5.0 was that
my de controller had to be built into the kernel, it couldn't be loaded as
a module, else it gave me similar errors ...

Is there a relatively easy way that one can build a static kernel specific
to a machine for booting off of floppy?  I've never done such yet, but if
the laptop is anything like my desktop, I'm suspecting that might fix my
problem ...
