Hi folks,

From what I've seen from a google search for "compaq presario 1620", my
laptop does contain a modem. See http://www.freshports.org/tmp/dmesg.txt
for details. I do see this:

pcic0: TI113X PCI Config Reg: [ring enable][speaker enable][CSC serial isa
irq]

How do I use this device? For that matter, can it be used?

I have tried using the standard ppp.conf:

default:
set log Phase Chat LCP IPCP CCP tun command
 ident user-ppp VERSION (built COMPILATIONDATE)

 set device /dev/cuaa1

 set speed 115200
set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \
           \"\" AT OK-AT-OK ATE1Q0 OK \\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT"
 set timeout 180
 enable dns

papchap:
 set phone 863-9741
 set authname dan
 set authkey password

 set ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0
 add default HISADDR

/var/log/ppp.log shows this:

tun0: Command: padpchap: set ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0
0.0.0.0
tun0: Command: papchap: add default HISADDR
tun0: Phase: PPP Started (ddial mode).
tun0: Phase: bundle: Establish
tun0: Phase: deflink: closed -> opening
tun0: Warning: deflink: /dev/cuaa1: Bad file descriptor
tun0: Chat: Failed to open device
tun0: Phase: deflink: Enter pause (30) for redialing.

thanks
