Cant Select Media for PCCARD DFE-670TXD on Inspiron 8500

I have a new Dell Inspiron 8500 (notebook) which has an integrated
Broadcom 440X NIC that i basically has given up on 4.8 -RELEASE and
-STABLE.
As an alternative, I have plugged in a spare D-Link DFE670-TXD 16-bit
PCMCIA card, which has given me a mix of joy AND some puzzling
questions:
I seem to be able to get on my office network. I can ping the gateway
and a few hosts, as well connect via SSH and FTP. However, I simply
can't ping a few host in my network . Most importantly, ALL the other
hosts simply can't ping the Inspiron. Which is quite puzzling,
considering the gateway (running FreeBSD and ipfilter+ipnat) do
acknowledge its IP when its making a connection to the outside (I am
able to cvsup my source and make my ports on the Inspiron)
But I just cant seem to ping or connect to the services on my Inspiron
from any other hosts. (Probably the reason too that the Inspiron doesnt
work in a DHCP mode). I know something is wrong because there isnt seem
to be a MEDIA line for ed1 in my ifconfig output:
