Hi Andrew,

hard to tell why FreeBSD 5.1 stops during boot or installtion on you laptop 
without any further information.

It would be great when you could say when or in what step it stops working.

Another way is trying FreeBSD 4.8, since FreeBSD 5.1 contains more 
experimental code. FreeBSD 4.8 is the more production release.
