PCCards not working (5.1)

Hi,

I'm running into a problem wrt PCcards under 5.1.

First, here's what I've got:
Compaq Evo N610c, 1GB RAM, 40GB HD, latest BIOS
SW: FreeBSD 5.1

The problem: The PCCard-slots are recognized upon boot but when I
insert a card into any of the two slots I get an error message,
telling me that there's no pccard slot present.

(excert from /var/log/messages)

Oct 15 09:19:16 beastie pccardd[507]: fatal error: no PC-CARD slots
Oct 15 09:19:23 beastie kernel: pccard0: can't alloc memory to read attributes
Oct 15 09:19:23 beastie kernel: pccard0: CARD ERROR!
Oct 15 09:19:23 beastie kernel: cbb0: PC Card card activation failed

When I try to start pccardd by hand, even using "pccardd -d" it dies
immediately with the same error message.

Please note that this happens independent of the card(s) I use: I've
tried with a Cisco Aironet 350 WLAN-card, an Elsa WLAN-card (old prism
chipset) as well as a Xircom 10/100 Ethernet-Card - these are all
cards that should be well known to FreeBSD.

I've already tried upgrading both kernel and userland to the latest
version (cvsup and the usual build/install procedure) - to no extent;
the error remains the same.

For your reference I'm including the complete boot-log below
(/var/log/messages).

Any ideas what could be wrong here?

TIA for your help,
-ewald
