And if/when you've decided on the laptop you want to get, it would be a good 
idea to google around for the status of hardware support on FreeBSD, aswell 
as ask here.

In my experience there is always *something* that doesn't work quite right on 
non-MS operating systems when it comes to laptops. My laptop is a T40p which 
works fine overall, but there are some quirks.

As for "officially" supported I don't know.

This doesn't work? It seem normal enough to me. What problems have you had?

Well, again the T40p *does* work for me (I used it as my primary system for 
quite a while) but not perfectly. There are obviously many laptops that work 
though. I think you may have better luck finding out how well things work if 
you focus on one or a few laptops that you have decided are the best choices 
for other reasons unrelated to FreeBSD hardware compatibility.
