This probably isn't much help to you, but once upon a time I was running
a T20 with some flavor of 4.X on it...I don't recall any particular
problems with the display, either with X Windows or otherwise. 
Unfortunately I no longer have the T20 in my possession (had to leave it
behind at my last ${ORKPLACE}), so I can't really give any more detailed
information than that.
