What FreeBSD version are you use ? There was such bug some time ago (about no detach event for USB keyboard, see my PR: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=46488) In past I have workaround it with detecting detach event on USB hub, but anyway bug fixed in both RELENG_5 and CURRENT (not sure about RELENG_4) -- Vladimir B.
