We've been running into this in pfSense for a while as well:

We wound up applying this band-aid:
https://github.com/pfsense/FreeBSD-src/commit/9834d8bb0d3344cd82552c3cd16e5b2d84543d8f 
That's very much not a fix, but it does seem to mitigate the panics.
