No, I didn't know about this work.

I found several threads discussing CAN support, but there was no 
progress there, it was mentioned that philip@ was once working on it, 
but for several years the CAN subsystem never appeared.

Thanks for pointing me to the right maillist, probably we can combine 
our efforts
