Agreed, the automatic variant is basically porting the Linux rational.  We
could trivially combine approaches, where it is default limited to 32b DMA,=
 and
a TUNABLE allows one to override and enable larger DMA on intel or 64-bit R=
ISC
chipsets (which basically just means PowerPC now).  Or take just my approac=
h or
your approach and document the limitation.

Given that people still using these PCI cards (not PCI-X) are probably few,=
 and
further need whatever the impacting system chipset is, I don't suspect there
will be much feedback in any direction.
