The is not new to this version but exists for a longer time. 
Unfortunately it may not be reproduced deterministically but the problem exists
and is well known among some users.

When running tmux in a X11 terminal emulator like xfce4-terminal it may happen
that stray escape sequences are appearing after exiting tmux. I saw such also
in console.

To my knowledge this is caused by tmux failing to send the proper
deinitialization strings such as terminal reset (under some unknown
circumstances). Consequently, every subsequent mouse click or scroll gesture
sends raw control characters directly into the active shell prompt, rendering
them as literal text characters (escape sequences) on the screen.

As I'm not sure if the problem is special to FreeBSD or an upstream bug. If the
latter is the case the maintainer may please send them a bug report.
