do you happen to know where i can find older -CURRENT ISO images?  i had
a look on ci.freebsd.org but i don't see any.

i did test the last 14.3-STABLE snapshot and that boots fine.  if
necessary i can switch to an old src commit and try to build disc1,
but i'm not sure at which point this actually produced a working
image (it is currently broken, which is what i'm trying to fix).
