Bug ID: 295807
Summary: Apple G5 TTY suddenly freezes
Product: Base System
Version: Unspecified
Hardware: powerpc
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: ---
Component: powerpc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Experienced in FreeBSD 15.1-RC1 (more frequently) and 16.0 (Live-CD).
Perhaps related to (Bug 295806) in the sense that when USB 3.x devices are
connected this happens more frequently.
The observed behaviour goes as follows:
tty will freeze, no input from mouse or keyboard will be registered and aft=
er
3/4 seconds fans will ramp up to full blast. This will be sustained for 30/=
40
seconds, at which point the tty will resume and screen will start refreshing
again, keyboard and mouse will function again. Sometimes, just when the fre=
eze
occurs or just after the freeze, the machine will hard crash and reboot (th=
is
seems to happen only when the USB 3.x is connected, so I'm inclined to think
that that is the connection with 295806.
Interestingly enough, I've discovered that if I am connected through SSH to
this machine, the ssh connection will not freeze at all, unless I execute s=
ome
command like: sysctl -a | grep temp, at which point will hang until the ent=
ire
system resumes, then it will print the different hw temperatures correctly.
Javi.
